My Son

It's hard to say what took place in this photo.  My middle son, my sweet little boy, the one who was always simply happy, got on a bus and drove away.

A Wedding, A Flood, A Farewell Season.

Around here lately, it's been a time of joining together, banding together and a coming away as I prepare my Mother's heart to watch a Son march away.

Raising a Young Man After God's Heart (When They Won't)

For a son who has turned away from his faith, who essentially has divorced his family and followed other gods, what is my role as Mother?

Family Photos, A Date Night And A New Home Is Born, 12.1.17

We travelled to the other side of town last month for a new family portrait session.  It was quite the jaunt because the weather all day threatened rain and storms.

Celebrations

Mathew celebrated his birthday recently!  Phoebe made him this very special sign with a sweet message on the flip side.  So proud of this man and the tough decisions he has bravely made lately.  We have both cleaved to the Lord and prayerfully waited on Him for wisdom and clarity.

Raising Sons of the King

Raising young men, Sons of our God and King is a serious business.  There is no help from outside our home walls only temptation to them and to us as parents.  We chose to homeschool our children, I am still homeschooling today with three more bright minds who long and search this earth for interest, fun and meaning.  We never wanted to isolate them but we did believe we were to insulate them against the cold, hard world outside.  Insulation laced with truth and love and grace.

How could a child cope in this world without knowing the ultimate truth that they are loved and called to be the chosen of the one true God.  Knowledge that was so often too lofty for them to appreciate and put into practice yet day by day yet we continue to uplift them in prayer and instruction.

It has been said:

A strong home culture of faith and love gives strength to resist the powerful draw of a secular world
- Sally Clarkson

This weekend we celebrate Budd graduating from our minimum education standard here at home.  He will go on yet to College but this weekend will mark the half way mark for us.  Three high school graduates and three more to go.  God give me the strength and grace and the Love!

Just for fun because, sometimes, you have to just laugh .....

Happy Birthday!

Master Jedidiah turned 10 this week.  Due to Pa being in hospital suddenly we had to have his birthday celebrations over two different days.  We were able to finish up and have birthday cake and party games last night.

Sons

Every single time I race around with my phone to take a picture of my handsome two eldest sons, they scatter.  This morning they kinda thought better of it ... don't know why, but I gave silent thanks to God.  I really value picture of our days together, every Sunday morning I am blessed afresh when I see them present their best for our church service not because we want to look like we are anything but because they want to present themselves as their best.  If that's a clean, pressed t-shirt then so it is.
Our heart shows through in our outward presentation.

So here they are.  It took one second and I was happy!  Now just to get them ALL together in one place for one moment in time ... psst! they have agreed to have a photo shoot together next week whilst I'm away - I asked Charlotte to take over the planning.  It will be my Mothers' Day gift.  Isn't that a good idea!

The Making Of Men - Book Review

Reading this book in our season of raising godly young men.  I can't recommend it highly enough.  For parents or a parent of any age son this is for you.  It isn't a Christian book yet can be read and appreciated with loads of practical application, not to mention wisdom and excellent research to learn from.

Do you ever worry about your teenage son and what will become of him?
Do you want to see him happy, successful and excited about life?
Are you alarmed about the influence of technology on his life?
Do you wonder how the enthusiastic and energetic kid who made you laugh, drove you nuts with questions and was into everything, seemingly overnight turned into a grunting teenager, unwilling or unable to communicate?
If these questions concern you, or if you've answered yes to any of them, this book is for you.

Father of two boys Dr Arne Rubinstein draws on his thirty years' experience working with teenagers. He reveals what happens to boys during adolescence, what you can do about it as a parent or carer, how you help them stay out of trouble, and what you need to do to ensure they grow up to be a happy, healthy and well-adjusted men.

Packed with insights, practical tips and honest, no-nonsense wisdom. Find out more about The Making of Men on Dr Arne Rubinstein's website, or on social media sites facebook, twitter, linkedin.
